HIGH-SPEED RAIL - ALTO’S UPCOMING FIELD STUDIES
March 27, 2026 - News from Marty Carr, Councillor Alta Vista Ward 18

Alto, Canada’s High-Speed Rail project team, announced this week they are gearing up to begin field investigations this spring as part of their data collection program.

To undertake this work, Alto will require access to both public and private lands and will be seeking cooperation from some landowners to access their property. Alto will reach out to the identified landowners to formally seek a “Permission to Enter” agreement. Financial compensation will be available for those who sign the agreement.

I would like to ensure residents understand that a Permission to Enter agreement does not mean their property will be acquired, nor does it necessarily mean that the train will run near your property. Any potential property acquisition requirements will be determined once the final route has been established.

The City does not have the list of landowners to be approached, nor does the City have any information identifying specific locations for these site investigations. If you have any questions about the field studies or the “Permission to Enter” process, you can call the Alto Liaison Office at 1-855-888-4421, or email permissions@altotrain.ca.

> More information can be found on Alto's website

HOW MIGHT ALTO HIGH-SPEED RAIL PROJECT IMPACT EASTWAY GARDENS?
Eastway Gardens could be significantly impacted if the proposed Alto High-Speed Rail megaproject goes ahead. Construction would begin simultaneously at the Ottawa and Montreal ends of the corridor in 2029. The Via Rail terminal/O-Train station on Tremblay Road is a strong contender for the site of the Alto train station.
